SuicideLine is available throughout Victoria 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the cost of a local call (mobiles extra). Interpreters can be arranged for non-English speaking callers.
SuicideLine provides:
- suicide prevention - counselling and support;
- crisis intervention;
- information for people concerned about suicidal risk in others;
- support for people bereaved by suicide; and
- facilitated referrals to services across Victoria.
The service answers approximately 12,000 calls every year from people of all ages and backgrounds. Around five percent of these calls are assessed as emergency (suicides in progress).
SuicideLine is managed by Crisis Support Services, Australia's leading provider of specialised, professional counselling and training. As well as SuicideLine, Crisis Support Services currently manages MensLine Australia and a number of specialist services for organisations such as Australia Post.
